- Das Proseminar Literature gehört in folgenden Studiengängen jeweils zu folgenden Modulen:
° BA English and American Studies (neu): Zwischenmodul II Literature
° Lehramt Englisch an Gymnasien (neu): Zwischenmodul L-GYM Literature (Zulassungsvoraussetzung: Basismodul Literature)
° Lehramt Englisch an Grund-, Haupt- und Realschulen (neu): Seminarmodul L-UF Literature (Zulassungsvoraussetzung: Elementarmodul L-UF Literature)
- Inhalt
- In this course we will analyze representations of New York City in numerous texts – from the urban landscape in Dos Passos’ Manhattan Transfer to the way the city and some of its citizens are represented in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Jay McInerney’s Bright Lights, Big City, as well as Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. We will also work with shorter texts and text excerpts set in the city. At the same time, we will deal with appearances of New York in films (e.g. Night on Earth, Gangs of New York) as well as in numerous TV series.Students are required to read the texts thoroughly and to attend all film viewings, to actively participate in class discussions and to deliver a presentation.
