Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and Jay McInerney’s Bright Lights, Big City, as well as Jonathan Safran Foer’s Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. We will also work with shorter texts and text excerpts set in the city. At the same time, we will deal with appearances of New York in films (e.g. Night on Earth, Gangs of New York) as well as in numerous TV series.Students are required to read the texts thoroughly and to attend all film viewings, to actively participate in class discussions and to deliver a presentation.
