Inhalt
Since the end of the Cold War, Turkey has sought to adjust to the new realities of the changing international system by adopting new policies and strategies in its relations with the states in the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Balkans. Additionally, Turkey’s policies toward the United States and Western Europe have also undergone changes. Along with the recent developments in global and regional politics and the rise of the Islamist AKP to power have contributed to the formulation of new policies and approaches. In the course, we will analyze and understand the readjustment of the Turkish foreign policy. The main focus of the course is on current developments although there will be some discussion of the historical background to Turkey’s international relations. Students are strongly encouraged to follow news on Turkish foreign policy through various media sources (newspapers, weekly/monthly magazines, TV news and analyses, and reliable/serious sources on the internet). This seminar will be held in English. For non-native speakers, as the instructor herself, this is a great opportunity to practice WITHOUT fear what today's internationalized job market will require. No one expects from you to speak and write like the British Royal Family, so make use of this opportunity.
