- Voraussetzungen / Organisatorisches
- This course is first and foremost intended for students who have successfully completed Englisch Level 1: Introduction to Basic Academic English but wish to deepen their English skills in an academic context before level 2. Students who have not successfully passed Englisch Level 1: Introduction to Basic Academic English are not eligible to take this course. Students who successfully pass Basic Academic English II will receive 2.5 ECTS and may then move on to level 2 courses (Note: Students must have a total of 5 ECTS at level 1 before they are allowed to take a course at level 2). Students of all subjects and degrees are eligible to take Basic Academic English II so long as the prerequisites above have been met.
- Inhalt
- The course content primarily revolves around the topic of culture from a number of different perspectives. Additional topics as they relate to culture include religion, ethics and morality as well as globalization and intercultural competence. These topics will be addressed by means of newspaper and journal articles, videos, audio clips, in-class discussions, personal research and more. Students will be further introduced to academic vocabulary necessary for understanding and using English at the university level. The language skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening will all be trained throughout the course. Homework assignments include an essay, a group presentation and a recording, and the course will finish with a final exam.
Es wird empfohlen, im Zuge des Studiums einer Fremdsprache einmal die Übung "Kickstart: Fremdsprachen lernen" (auf UNIVIS unter Sprachenzentrum > Sprachbezogene Zusatzqualifikationen in Erlangen) zu besuchen.
