- The course deals with central topics of pragmatics, such as implicature, presupposition, speech acts, reference, and context, socially and/or culturally oriented pragmatics, such as politeness/impoliteness studies, cross- and intercultural, and interlanguage pragmatics. The conversation analysis is aiming to discuss how conversation works and provide the tools for analysing spoken interaction. The course will give an opportunity to analyse speeches of famous politicians, celebrities, and other influential personalities and combine the approaches used in pragmatics and conversational analysis to analyse these speeches.
