Das Hauptseminar gehört in folgenden Studiengängen zu folgenden Modulen:

- Inhalt
- Survival is a universal human desire, a necessity, a fundamental human right nobody would deny; but often survival is closely affiliated with complex questions concerning ethics, law, religion, tradition and culture. Survival is an ‘act’ which frequently demands extreme self-discipline, an iron will and favourable circumstances, but survival is also a ‘state of being’ that may bring about feelings of relief, contentment, euphoria and happiness, as well as those of doubt, insecurity, guilt and even depression. The seminar will first analyse the representation of survival in classical texts of the 18th and 19th centuries such as Daniel Defoe’s A Journal of the Plague Year (1722), H.G. Well’s The Time Machine (1895) before concentrating on contemporary literature. We will read and interpret the following books: Ruth Klüger, Still Alive: A Holocaust Girlhood Remembered (2001), Alan Scott Haft: Harry Haft: Auschwitz Survivor, Challenger of Rocky Marciano (2006), Jon McGregor, Even the Dogs (2010) and Julian Barnes, The Noise of Time (2016).
