Zeit und Ort: Di 16:15 - 17:45, C 301
- Inhalt
- This seminar draws on research from disability studies and the growing interest in corporeality and embodiment to look at a range of fictional works that address the normativity of bodily and mental states. Starting with a few visual examples from films such as Freaks (1932) and My Left Foot (1989), and pausing briefly for Pope and Kafka, we will focus on novels by Virginia Woolf, Mark Haddon, and David Mitchell to discuss how the performativity of normative bodies is challenged through aesthetic strategies of representation. The seminar will also trace parallels to postcolonial studies, queer studies, and other ethical discourses.
