- Inhalt
- Analyzing dictionaries may appear as one of the most boring exercises in the world. It is the aim of this seminar to demonstrate that this is not so. On the contrary, fascinating new developments in linguistic research have been instigated by innovation in English learner lexicography during the last fifty years.
This seminar will concentrate on monolingual learner's dictionaries discussing topics such as:
Providing comprehensible definitions Corpus data, collocation, idiom principle The dictionary as a production tool: verb patterns, valency, etc.
And finally we will have to address the issue of whether the availability of (poor quality?) online dictionaries means the end of commercial (high quality) lexicography.
