- Inhalt
- This seminar is a one-author course that requires a substantial amount of reading. We will discuss the multi-facetted oeuvre of the contemporary American author Stewart O'Nan - his novels and short stories - and examine his writings with regard to their aesthetics and politics: How can we categorize them along the lines of genre and literary style? How do they portray American history (its wars and other crises) and contemporary US society (in particular its kinship and family structures and the rural/urban divide). In assessing the cultural work of O'Nan's writings we will contextualize him as a contemporary author whose work speaks to many issues of current concern in our field.
