- Inhalt
- During the past decades, a number of Asian states have challenged the notion that human rights are universal. They have argued instead that Western values and democracy are not well suited for Asia. Nevertheless, they have signed some of the core covenants of the international human rights architecture and have established National Human Rights Institutions to protect human rights. More often than not, however, these National Human Rights Institutions lack the power to constrain government actions and protect human rights adequately. The seminar aims at providing a broad overview of human rights issues in Asia, map human rights compliance across Asia and identify human rights problems. Additionally, the seminar assesses the work of National Human Rights Institutions and civil societies to improve human rights across Asia.
