- While East Asia is considered to be the most relevant region in terms of economic development, its political and social dynamics do not feature as prominently in media networks. Yet, from a political science and international relations perspective East Asia constitutes one of the most exiting regions as its political diversity and interactions provide highly interesting cases that may challenge or confirm existing theories. Against this background and based on concepts of political science and international relations theories and methods this seminar seeks to analyse the international relations and politics of Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia by looking at its actors (political systems, regional institutions), structures (economic interdependencies, hegemonic relations) and processes (regional integration, development, democratisation).
