Inhalt
This semester the Kolloquium deals with a hot topic in international relations, international business and trade negotiations: the centrality of the US on the international stage. The academic literature as well as several analysts and practitioners have argued that this century is going to be an Asian – or Chinese – century, and that the US is losing ground internationally. In our sessions, we will instead argue with theoretical and practical illustrations that the US is as central as ever to international affairs. In fact, the US is gaining ground again on the world stage after the Bush years. Among other topics, we will discuss the US grand strategy, the transatlantic and transpacific trade negotiations, the role of the US in Latin America and in other regions of the world, the legacy of the Obama administration, and the international implications of the 2016 presidential elections in the US.
