Empfohlene Voraussetzungen:

Recommended are knowledge in signals and systems, a solid mathematical background and some personal interest in music

Inhalt:

• a short history of electrical and electronic music

• processing of audio signals by parametric filters and effects

• different methods for digital sound synthesis

• sound reproduction in real and in virtual environments

• feature design principles for music-specific aspects like harmony, rhythm, timbre, and melody

• practical and musical relevance of feature representations in the context of current music analysis and retrieval tasks

• development of music-specific signal processing techniques

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

The students

• specify the requirements for audio realtime processing,

• apply their knowledge about discrete-time signals and systems to processing and synthesis of musical sounds,

• design their own software realizations for sound synthesis

• understand the properties of various representations of music

• apply basic algorithms for analysis and comparison of music

• discuss the importance and relevance of parameters for the analysis of music

• predict the suitablity of different methods for the analysis of certain muscial signals
