Privacy and Legal Aspects of Immutable Blockchains (PLAIB)5 ECTS
(englische Bezeichnung: Privacy and Legal Aspects of Immutable Blockchains)

Modulverantwortliche/r: Dominique Schröder, Dominic Deuber
Lehrende: Dominique Schröder, Dominic Deuber

Startsemester: WS 2021/2022Dauer: 1 SemesterTurnus: unregelmäßig
Präsenzzeit: 20 Std.Eigenstudium: 130 Std.Sprache: Englisch

Lehrveranstaltungen:

Empfohlene Voraussetzungen:

Students should have basic knowledge of how blockchains works. Legal knowledge (e.g. a minor in law) is desirable, but not required. However, there should be an interest in dealing with legal issues, as they are an essential part of the seminar.

Inhalt:

Blockchains not only allow transaction data to be stored, but also any other data. This allows useful applications, such as time-stamping services. However, it also opens up the possibility of storing content that may be illegal in some countries. This raises serious questions that we will address in this seminar:

  • How is it technically possible to store possibly illegal content on blockchains?

  • What are the legal consequences of illegal content?

  • What methods are there to deal with illegal content?

  • How good are these methods from a legal point of view?

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

On successfully passing the course, the students will know how to critically examine scientific publications and how to assess a topic in computer science from the perspective of another discipline. In particular, the students learn about the legal consequences of illegal content on blockchains and the technical solutions to address them.

Bemerkung:

As there are only 6 possible slots in this seminar, interested students need to send a short email at plaib@i13.cs.fau.de until 15 September 2021 with their motivation and experiences (related lectures, projects, ...). This procedure is relevant only for students who wish to take the seminar. The introductory lectures are free for all!

Organisatorisches:

The seminar is split into two parts. The rst part consists of three introductory lectures followed by a Q&A meeting. In the latter, topics for the paper and presentation will be assigned. The second part will be a block seminar, where the students present their work.

Verwendbarkeit des Moduls / Einpassung in den Musterstudienplan:
Das Modul ist im Kontext der folgenden Studienfächer/Vertiefungsrichtungen verwendbar:

  1. Informatik (Master of Science)
(Po-Vers. 2010 | TechFak | Informatik (Master of Science) | Gesamtkonto | Hauptseminar, Projekt, Masterarbeit | Hauptseminar | Privacy and Legal Aspects of Immutable Blockchains)

Studien-/Prüfungsleistungen:

Privacy and Legal Aspects of Immutable Blockchains (Prüfungsnummer: 76391)
Prüfungsleistung, Seminarleistung, Dauer (in Minuten): 45, benotet, 5 ECTS
Anteil an der Berechnung der Modulnote: 100.0 %
weitere Erläuterungen:
Every student will have to give a presentation and write a paper on an assigned topic. The presentation must be self contained, i.e. the other students must be able to follow it only with the knowledge from the previous lectures. It should be approximately 30 minutes long, and will be followed by a 15 minute discussion. In addition to the presentation, students need to hand in a paper that discusses the assigned topic. Unlike the presentation, the paper must cover the assigned topic in detail and critically deal with it. That is, it should not only identify the main contributions and most important aspects, but also analyse them against the background of the issues raised in the lectures and relevant related work. The paper is expected to not exceed 10 pages.
