Inhalt:

Contents
After discussing the foundations of the interaction of radiation and matter and radiation biology, the lecture focuses on the medical physics aspects of the individual steps of a radiation therapy treatment, namely:

• Imaging (CT, MR, PET) and segmentation (incl. image registration)

• Medical linear accelerators (LINACs)

• Treatment planning (optimization, dose calculation algorithms)

• Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)

• Patient positioning (surface imaging, Cone-Beam CT, ultrasound, …)

• Management of organ motion

• Quality assurance and verification (dosimetry, detectors, adaptive radiation therapy)

• Proton and ion beam therapy

• Brachytherapy

• Hyperthermia
