Lehrveranstaltungen:

    • Sedimentary Geochemistry [AS-F2, RL-F2]
      (Vorlesung mit Übung, 4 SWS, Michael Joachimski, Di, 16:15 - 17:45, Zoom-Meeting; Mi, 14:00 - 15:30, Zoom-Meeting; The lecture as well as exercises will be given online. Additionally, it is planned to record the lectures which would become available on the video server of the FAU. All students should subscribe to "Sedimentary Geochemistry" on studon.fau.de (no password required). Access link for the lecture and further information will be sent after registration in late October to all participants registered on Studon.fau.de. The first lecture will be on Wednesday, 4.11.)

Empfohlene Voraussetzungen:

Obligatory for students of "Angewandte Sedimentologie und Georessourcen" and “Earth Systems Research Lab”. Students majoring in Palaeobiology-Palaeoenvironments

Inhalt:

Geochemical proxies in palaeoenvironmental analysis Foundation of sedimentary geochemistry with special consideration to major and trace elements, Rare Earth Elements (REE), stable and radiogenic isotopes.
Geochemical proxies in palaeoenvironmental analysis - lab: Application of geochemical proxies to reconstructions of palaeoclimate as well as palaeoenvironmental conditions. Geochemical development of sedimentary rocks in Earth history. Palaeoclimatic history of the Earth as reconstructed using geochemistry.

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:

The students are able to

  • present and explain the foundations of sedimentary geochemistry with special consideration to major and trace elements, Rare Earth Elements (REE), stable and radiogenic isotopes

  • apply geochemical proxies to reconstructions of palaeoclimate as well as palaeoenvironmental conditions analyse, present and discuss the data

  • summarize the geochemical development of sedimentary rocks in Earth history. Palaeoclimatic history of the Earth as reconstructed using geochemistry
