A credit from one of the courses marked with a* can be counted toward the Allgemeine Zertifikatsprüfung UNIcert® III.
All the courses in Part II can be counted towards UNIcert III as either a Language Skills A or a Language Skills B course, depending on the main subjects studied, the student's timetable and the student's result in the Placement Test. We recommend that students have studied their main subject for at least one semester, preferably a year, before taking one of the courses. Alternatively, the course may be recommended to individual students as a starting point for organisational reasons. Law students should note that in their case special conditions pertain. These are to be found in the 'Ausbildungsplan des fachbezogenen Fremdsprachenunterrichts für Studierende der Rechtswissenschaften' as well as on the Law Faculty's website under http://www.jura.uni-erlangen.de/Fremdsprachen/iwr.pdf. Here you will also find course desciptions for the law courses. The materials for these various courses are distributed in class. |

Part III
|
Both credits - Focusing English Skills A and Focusing English Skills B - are obligatory for the Allgemeine Zertifikatsprüfung UNIcert® III.
Both the Focusing English Skills A and the Focusing English Skills B courses are intended as preparation courses for the UNIcert® III examination and should preferably be the third and fourth course attended by students who plan to take the UNIcert® examination. The main focus in both courses is to improve oral and writing skills within an academic framework by practising the four main areas of writing tested in the exam and by training listening comprehension and oral skills. Beginning students who are already very proficient in English because they have had experience of English-speaking countries or because they have scored 80% or more in the Placement Test can take one of these courses without having passed any previous language exams but we strongly recommend that the majority of students should start with English Language Skills courses to revise vocabulary and structures before taking these courses with focus much more on language production. The materials for these courses are distributed in class.
Please note that when you go through the process of registering for a course, you do so as a 'Bewerber'. Lists showing which 'applicants' have been accepted into courses will be published in the Sprachenzentrum at the latest on the day when the first courses begin. To be accepted into a course, students must have registered and taken part in the placement test if they have not already taken it.
