- This seminar consists of two parts:
1. An introduction to theories of grammar and language learning based on Goldberg’s new book on construction grammar.
2. An analysis of text books and teaching materials used at German schools in the light of this theory.
Questions to be discussed include:
How do children learn what to say and what not to say? Why is there such a big discrepancy between linguistic theory and textbooks? Are the textbooks usually used equally suitable for learners with other L1sthan German? How could the grammar and vocabulary parts be improved?
