Inhalt:
The course aims to present some of the most basic algorithms and statistical models for DNA sequence analysis. It focuses on teaching students how to formulate a problem as a mathematical and computational problem, and then solve it using efficient algorithms and appropriate statistical methods. Lecture:
The lectures will cover basic data visualization and summarization, statistical methods, parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, sequence alignment and genome assembly algorithms, population variation, and genome association studies. Computer Lab:
Students will work on problems and through statistical analyses using the freely available software R.

understand some commonly used algorithms in genomics
understand the mathematical models behind population association studies
choose appropriate statistical methods to assess statistical significance
critically evaluate and interpret statistical methods used in primary research articles
