Inhalt:
Advanced Seminar (Hauptseminar): This module deals with different aspects of lexicology, morphology, phraseology and semantics in the light of different linguistic theories:
different concepts of meaning
meaning-carrying units: morphemes, words, idioms, phraseolo-gisms, constructions
Sinclair’s idiom principle
construction grammar approach
Course (Übung): Bridging the gap between linguistics and practical language courses, participants are introduced to the linguistic analysis of various types of register. The active text production part focuses on idiomatic and stylisti-cally appropriate language use and the resources which can support the participants in developing their language skills.

Lernziele und Kompetenzen:
The aim of this module is for students to
develop a deeper understanding of various approaches to mean-ing in language
become familiar with key texts in the areas of semantics and syn-tax and be able to read difficult and complex academic literature
develop an awareness of differences between registers
develop the ability to discuss these differences appropriately
develop the ability to apply this knowledge actively in writing.
