- Contents
- In this seminar we will try to understand Aldous Huxley's contribution to 20th-century-literature. By reading and interpreting selected short stories and four of his novels - Point Counter Point (1928), Brave New World (1932), Eyeless in Gaza (1936), and Island (1962) we will try to get an impression of Huxley's literary achievement. The topics we are going to discuss will comprehend Huxley's 'social satire', his 'theory of identity', his 'concept of utopia and dystopia', his 'attitude towards natural science' and his increasing 'interest in mysticism'. In order to analyse Huxley's Position in the context of English Modernism, we will also study several of his theoretical essays.
