3D Virtual Apparel Design

Virtualization increases influence even in the field of apparel development. Over the last years more and more assets in the apparel creation workflow are replaced by virtual entities. This process covers measurement acquisition out of 3D scans as well as the pattern development process and the simulation and rendering of virtual garments to reduce the quantity of physical samples. This project focuses on the virtual design process to overcome the barrier between the 3D garment and the flat pattern domain to close the gap between an apparel designer and a pattern developer. New paradigms for 3D garment design are explored to replace the traditional 2D way of making pattern regarding the target of a seamless cutting point between design and development professionals. A complete virtual design and development workflow ranging from scan data analysis to the pattern will be elaborated with respect to existing resources such as technologies and knowledge.
